Presidential orders have identified the water sector and other key industry sectors as critical to the nation's health and well-being and recommended these sectors establish Information Sharing and Analysis Centers. In 1998, the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies was selected as the official liaison between the water sector and the Federal government. Shortly thereafter, AMWA established WaterISAC, the Water Information Sharing and Analysis Center with a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. WaterISAC continues today to provide all-hazard security information to the drinking water and wastewater sector.
